PONDA: Ponda police registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly operating an illegal laterite stone quarry in Dharbandora. Police said that on Saturday, prior to 4.17 p.m., an illicit quarrying activity was detected in the hill area of Marad Wada, near the Multifacility College. The accused, believed to be the owners of the land and machinery, were found extracting laterite stones using heavy equipment without authorization. Officers seized a horizontal laterite stone cutting machine and a power tiller from the site. The offence has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 3 of the Goa Mines and Minerals Rules, 1985. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Krishna Gawas of Ponda Police Station.
