Sanguem: The Directorate of Mines and Geology has detected an alleged case of illegal extraction and disposal of laterite stones at Cotarli village in Sanguem taluka, causing substantial loss to the State Government.
According to police, a complaint was lodged by Ameet Shetgaonkar, Junior Geologist with the Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panaji, stating that during a site inspection conducted prior to January 2, 2026, it was found that unknown accused persons had illegally extracted and disposed of laterite stones from Cotarli village without obtaining the mandatory permission from the Directorate for quarrying activities.
Police said the unauthorised extraction amounted to theft of State Government resources for personal gain, resulting in an estimated loss of around ₹20 lakh to the government.
A case has been registered at Sanguem Police Station, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Krishnadeep Borkar.
