New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster national security, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed the Delhi Police to take stringent action against networks facilitating the entry and stay of illegal migrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, in the capital city. This directive comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance law and order in Delhi, following a high-level meeting with top officials, including newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.
Shah emphasized that the issue of illegal intruders is deeply intertwined with national security and must be addressed with utmost severity. He directed that these migrants should be identified and deported, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach to dismantle networks that aid their entry and document acquisition. This approach includes a “top to bottom and bottom to top” strategy to ensure that all facets of illegal occupancy are addressed.
The meeting, which lasted over two hours, also focused on other critical issues such as eliminating interstate gangs, improving traffic management, and enhancing safety in slum clusters. Shah noted that the “double engine” government in Delhi will work at double speed to ensure a safe and developed capital, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Additionally, he instructed that permission from the Delhi Police will no longer be required for construction projects, and special prosecutors should be appointed to expedite the disposal of 2020 riot cases.
Furthermore, Shah directed the Delhi Police to identify areas prone to traffic jams and work with the Chief Secretary to implement swift solutions. The Delhi Government has also been tasked with preparing a ‘Monsoon Action Plan’ to mitigate water-logging issues.
