Cuncolim: A case of illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals has been reported from Cuncolim village in Salcete, causing a financial loss of approximately ₹3.77 lakh to the State exchequer.
The complaint, filed by Omkar Naik, Geologist at the Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panaji, states that prior to June 30, 2025, unknown persons unlawfully extracted mud/earth from the Cuncolim area without obtaining the mandatory license or permit from the competent authority. The illegally extracted mineral was then transported to an undisclosed location.
The act is considered a theft of state-owned natural resources, carried out for personal gain, and has resulted in significant revenue loss for the State Government.
The Cuncolim Police have registered an offence in this regard, and PSI Sahil Pagui has been assigned to lead the investigation. Authorities are working to identify the culprits and trace the destination of the stolen material.
