PARRA: Authorities on Thursday demolished an illegally constructed scrapyard located in Survey No. 183/3 of Parra village, Bardez taluka, following directives issued by the Block Development Officer (BDO) Bardez-I & II. The action was part of a coordinated effort involving multiple government departments and law enforcement agencies.
The demolition began around 10:00 am under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (North Goa), and was carried out by a government-appointed demolition team comprising Public Works Department (PWD) labourers, a JCB excavator, and officials from the Electricity Department, who ensured that any power supply to the site was disconnected.
The scrapyard, allegedly set up by Shri Tulsidas Mortu Naik Devkar, was found to be in violation of land use regulations and lacked the necessary permissions for operation. The illegal structure was razed in the presence of Parra Sarpanch Denial Lobo, members of the village Panchayat, and officers from the Anjuna Police Station.
An Executive Magistrate was designated as the site officer in charge to oversee the operation and ensure that law and order were maintained throughout the process.
The BDO had previously sought police protection and logistical support for the demolition through a formal request dated June 11, 2025. Officials assembled at the Parra Panchayat office at 9:30 am before proceeding to the site.
Authorities have been instructed to submit a detailed compliance report, including photographs, within 48 hours. Additionally, the removal of debris from the site must be completed within 15 days. Officials also ensured that no structures under a court stay were disturbed during the operation.
