CALANGUTE: The Calangute Panchayat on Thursday began demolishing roadside shops at Gauravaddo after identifying them as illegal encroachments during a recent survey conducted for road-widening works.
Out of 23 shops marked for removal, one shop owner obtained a stay order from the court, while demolition of the remaining structures is currently underway.
Officials of the Calangute Panchayat, the Talathi, the Mamlatdar, and personnel from the Calangute Police Station were present at the site to oversee and maintain law and order during the drive.
The action is part of the Panchayat’s ongoing efforts to clear illegal structures obstructing public infrastructure projects.
