DODAMARG: In protest of continuing stone quarrying operations close to the Tilari reservoir, which they say seriously jeopardize the dam’s safety, the people of Khanyale hamlet have gone on a hunger strike.
Due to excessive soil accumulation in the reservoir caused by the seven or eight working mines in the region, the dam’s structural stability is in jeopardy.
The residents are extremely worried that Khanyale hamlet will be completely destroyed and face disastrous repercussions if the dam were to fail.
The people are urging the governments of Goa and Maharashtra to act quickly to stop the quarrying operations and address the environmental threats that the mines pose.
They are requesting that officials give the dam’s security top priority and shield their hamlet from the possible risk of flooding. The hunger strike has drawn a lot of attention and is calling for immediate government action.
