Valpoi: Valpoi Police intercepted a pickup vehicle transporting a large quantity of meat illegally at the Keri border check post in Sattari during the early hours of Thursday.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 6 at 10:17 am based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Anuksh Gaonkar (PC-8151), attached to Valpoi Police Station.
As per the complaint, at around 1:30 am on March 6, police at the Border Check Post (BCP) Keri stopped a white Bolero Pickup bearing registration number KA-22-B-3542. The vehicle was allegedly found transporting about 750 kg of red meat valued at approximately Rs 2.10 lakh.
Police stated that the meat was being transported in unhygienic conditions and without any bill or authorization letter from the competent authority.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Sadiq B. Naikawadi (33), son of Basirahmed and a resident of House No. 278, Ankalgi, Belgaum in Karnataka, has been booked in connection with the offence.
