PANAJI: In their meeting with the 16th Finance Commission, the Indian Medical Association called for funding to be allocated for state-wide healthcare research and cohort studies.
The 16th Finance Commission, which was established under the direction of the President of the Government of India, held a stakeholders meeting on January 9, 2025, at the Cidade Hotel in Dona Paula, Goa, which the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa state was honored to attend, Sandesh Chodankar, president of IMA Goa, told reporters.
IMA Goa was represented at the stakeholders conference by Dr. Dattaram Desai, President of IMA Goa State, and Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Past President of IMA Goa State.
The honorable committee was presented with a comprehensive list of problems in the Goan healthcare industry, along with potential solutions.
In order to enhance public health in the state, IMA Goa also selected and highlighted the following crucial areas that require immediate attention and funding:
Regulation to protect private healthcare sector investments. upskilling programs to improve human resources in the medical field. Public health services are delivered right at your door.
registry for citizens and children with special needs. ex-gratia funding support for end-of-life and palliative care facilities. specialized vehicle for the promotion of medical travel. register of non-communicable diseases. using telemedicine to monitor diseases in real time. grid for mental health providers at the federal and state levels. Rural areas’ emergency ambulatory services.
Additionally, the 16th Finance Committee has received two special proposals from IMA Goa state.
The first suggestion calls for the establishment of assisted private hospitals using the PPP model in order to create specific health zones in underserved or unserved areas of the state.
In addition, IMA Goa state has stated its readiness to collaborate with the state government in the area of medical disaster management and offer ongoing assistance in times of need.
The Commission President’s closing remarks touched on both of the primary concerns raised by IMA Goa state during the discussion. Additionally, the President called on the industry to step up and support research-based initiatives in the healthcare industry.
