PANAJI: The yellow alert for the State has been extended to Thursday May 24 by the India Meteorological Observatory (IMD), Altinho.
The IMD said that the yellow alert has been extended until May 20 due to the very high chance of thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations throughout Goa.
Due the strong gusts and choppy seas, the IMD has recommended that beach sports be suspended or regulated.
The IMD said in a press statement that “tourists should not be permitted to enter sea while rough sea conditions prevail.”
The India Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow notice for the State on May 14 and prolonged it until May 17.
The advisory stated that isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusts of up to 30 to 40 kmph were expected over the districts of North and South Goa. On May 16, it was extended one again.
