PANAJI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Goa for June 12 to 14, forecasting heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong gusty winds across both North and South Goa districts. Additionally, a yellow alert has been announced for June 11, 15, and 16, indicating moderate rain and similar weather disturbances.
The IMD has warned that wind speeds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph, are likely during thunderstorms at isolated locations over the state. Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions during this period.
Despite the early onset of the monsoon this year, Goa has witnessed a significant drop in seasonal rainfall so far. The state has recorded just 3.77 inches of rain against the normal average of 7 inches, marking a shortfall of nearly 47%. In the last 24 hours up to 8:30 AM on June 10, the highest rainfall was recorded in Quepem with 0.9 inches, followed by Sanquelim at 0.8 inches.
Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation closely and urge the public to stay alert to further updates from the IMD.
