ANJUNA: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has ordered the Directorate of Panchayats and the Anjuna-Caisua village panchayat to finish building a senior citizen’s toilet, which had been on hold for more than five years because of a disagreement between the landlord and the renter.
According to the two-member Commission, during the next sixty days, a functional soak pit shall be installed close to the complainant’s home, and the remaining thirty percent of the toilet’s work should be completed by authorized agencies.
Radabai Morajkar, 81, of Anjuna, complained to the GHRC on June 20, 2024, requesting an immediate resolution to her toilet facility problem. According to her, her son paid the panchayat Rs 10,000 on February 18, 2019, for the construction of a toilet, but it was never finished because there was no soak pit.
In response, the panchayat said that the lack of land prevented Morajkar’s individual household latrine (IHHL) from being finished. At this point, roughly 70% of the toilet was finished.
According to the Commission, the complainant’s human rights were violated as a result of the panchayat and the Directorate of Panchayats’ incompetence. It stated that because the toilet was not finished, the complainant and her kid were forced to walk outside and respond to the demands of nature.
