PANAJI: With birth registered in Portugal, Former Minister Mickky Pacheco today said that Minister Aleixo Sequeira’s Indian citizenship should be revoked immediately.
“Alex Sequeira was born in 1957 in Kenya and registered his birth in Portugal on March 27th 2021, his Indian citizenship should be revoked immediately,” said Pacheco.
He further said that like others Sequeira’s passport should also be revoked like others who had their births registered in Portugal.
“I have written a letter to the passport authorities and will take a further decision within 15 days if Sequeira’s citizenship is not revoked,” he added.
“If he has registered his birth in Portugal as this document clearly shows (referring to a copy of a document he held in his hand), we want to know if he has surrendered his Indian citizenship,” Pacheco said.
Pacheco further said that the government, which has made him its minister, should come out clean – did he cancel his birth registration in Portugal before contesting the last assembly election and then re-registered his birth in India? If so, when? If not, he isn’t eligible to hold a position in the government).”
Minister Aleixo Sequeira had recently said he has never taken a Portuguese passport nor have travelled on a purported.
Portuguese passport to Portugal.
Addressing the media, Sequeira said he has definitely gone to Portugal and Europe, but has travelled to these countries on his Indian Passport after taking the necessary visas.
