Fatorda: In a shocking case of impersonation and theft, a man from Fatorda was tricked into handing over his gold ring by unidentified miscreants posing as police officers from the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
According to the complaint filed by Mr. Sada Naik Tari, a resident of Fatorda, the incident occurred on July 15, 2025, at around 1:30 PM at Chandrawada.
Tari was reportedly riding his Jupiter scooter when two unidentified persons on a two-wheeler intercepted him.
Pretending to be CID officers, the accused warned the complainant of a potential theft threat and instructed him to remove his gold ring — valued at approximately ₹60,000 — and hand it over to them for “safekeeping.” They then pretended to wrap the ring in a piece of paper and returned it to the complainant.
However, after the accused fled the scene, Mr. Tari checked the paper and discovered that it was empty — the ring was missing.
The case has been registered at Fatorda Police Station, and the investigation is currently being led by PSI Sachin Patil. Police have launched a manhunt to identify and nab the culprits, and have urged the public to remain cautious of such impersonation scams.
Authorities also advise citizens to always ask for proper identification from anyone claiming to be a police official, especially in suspicious or unsolicited situations.
