CANACONA: The much-awaited improvement and resurfacing of MDR-49, connecting Agonda to Char Rasta, was inaugurated on Thursday with the use of modern hot-mix technology.
The foundation stone for the project was laid at Agonda by Canacona MLA and Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, marking a significant step in enhancing the region’s road infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tawadkar highlighted the urgent need for the project, stating that the deteriorating condition of the road had posed major difficulties for both residents and tourists. “This initiative will ensure safer, smoother, and faster travel while upgrading the road with modern construction techniques,” he said.
Agonda Sarpanch Nilesh Pagui lauded the Minister’s leadership, noting that under his guidance, Canacona has seen remarkable progress in infrastructure, social welfare, and overall development, benefiting every village in the constituency.
The launch event was attended by Deputy Sarpanch Karuna Faldessai, Panch members Ramnath Velip and Ex-Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues, Panchayat Secretary Amol Naik Gaonkar, social worker Estev Rodrigues, the project contractor, and several villagers.
Officials confirmed that the improvement work will initially focus on filling potholes and leveling the damaged stretches. Resurfacing with hot-mix is scheduled to begin once the monsoon subsides, ensuring a durable and long-lasting road surface.
