Canacona.
With the results of all the twelve wards of Canacona Municipal Council out by 12.00 noon, efforts were in full swing by the bigwigs to lure the winning candidates to their sides.
Although the election results have thrown some surprises the entire council has 8 new faces and 4 old faces.
The counting for the 12 wards started at 8.00am on Monday and the first result was out by 8.30am.
From ward I (Nagarcem) Hemant Naik Gaonkar former vice chairperson of CMC polled 372 votes while his rival Ranganath Naikgaonkar ex chairperson of CMC polled 317 votes.
The total voting for this ward was 700 out of which 11 votes were rejected.
Ward II (Chaudi) saw Ramakant Naikgaonkar former chairperson getting 491 votes while his his rival Levino Gracias got 246 votes. Total voting for this ward was 739 and 2 votes were rejected.
Levino later submitted his application for recounting of the votes which was rejected by the Returning Officer as the margin of winning was huge.
In ward III (Delem) Supriya Desai got 352 votes while Jayashree Shet got 330 votes, total voting was 690 and 8 votes were found to be invalid.
Jayashree Shet also asked for recounting and after the recounting the results remained unchanged.
In ward IV (Mastimoll) Dhiraj Naikgaonkar polled 488 votes while Kishore Shet polled 132 votes total voting was 633, Kishore Shet was vice chairperson in the last council.
13 votes from this ward were declared invalid.
In ward V (Kindlem) Amita Pagi got 314 while her rival Roshan Pagui got 259. Total voting in this ward was 583 and a total of 10 votes were found invalid.
In ward VI (Ponsulem) Narciso Salvador Fernandes got 369 votes while his closest rival Wilson Fernandes got 292.
Total voting was 762 and 7 votes were found to be invalid.
In ward VII (Rajbagh) Madgaonkar Gandesh got elected with 383 votes while Ratnakar Dhuri came second with 277 votes and Rajesh Naik got 203 votes.
Dhuri had controlled this ward for last 20 years and Gandesh became a giant killer after defeating Dhuri. While counting was going on for Rajbagh ward one of the candidates from Patnem ward complained of giddiness and was promptly attended to.
Ward VIII (Patnem) saw Shubam Komarpant, a strong supporter of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes winning hands down with 521 votes his immediate rival Guru Komarpant polled 279 votes
The total voting in this ward was 1093 out of which 11votes were declared invalid.
Ward IX (Bhagatwada) elected
Nitu Dessai ex chairpersons with 509 while Sanija Desai got 454. Total voting in this ward was 970 with 7 invalid votes.
Ward XI (Palolem-1) saw Simon Rebello winning with 400 votes while Dayanand Pagi got just 115. Total otal voting on this ward was 522 with 7 invalid votes.
Ward XII (Devabagh), as expected Sara Naik Desai won after polling 389 vites while her rival Sharmila Desai got 269 votes.
Total voting was 676 with 18 invalid votes.
Ward XII (Palolem-2), Laxman Pagi turned out to be another giant killer as he polled 325 votes while his closest rival Divakar Pagi polled 269 votes. Total voting was 604 with 3 invalid votes.
