Panaji: At the state’s Independence Day celebrations in Panaji, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant set out a vision for a safer, more self-reliant Goa, combining strong security measures with sweeping welfare reforms, and reaffirming the state’s role in nation-building.
Honouring outstanding police officers for their service, Dr. Sawant announced a clampdown on unregistered security agencies linked to gang-related crime, stressing the need to protect public safety. “We will not allow illegal operations that threaten Goa’s peace,” he said.
The CM urged Goans to take ‘Vocal for Local’ to the next level — ‘Local for Global’ — by embracing swadeshi products and ideas, while unveiling reforms such as regularisation of houses, simplified renovation permits, expansion of the Mhaje Ghar Yojana, extension of Forest Rights Act benefits, and granting temporary status to daily wage workers.
Reflecting on Goa’s journey, Dr. Sawant said, “Our nation has made rapid progress in all spheres and has emerged as one of the fastest-developing countries. During the last 63 years, Goa has made a significant contribution to taking the country forward. We are working towards comprehensive development of the State, thereby contributing to nation-building, with inclusive growth that empowers every citizen to manifest their potential for the collective good.”
He highlighted the government’s initiatives to provide security through people-centric schemes and transparent access to public services. “In line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Goa is steadfastly working towards becoming Swayampurna in every sector, from agriculture to industry, education to health. We are committed to fostering Swadeshi by promoting local enterprise, preserving traditional skills, and encouraging indigenous products. This Swayampurnata, rooted in our heritage and driven by innovation, will strengthen the foundation of a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Paying homage to freedom fighters, the Chief Minister added, “We bow our heads in respect to all the courageous souls who were martyred for the country. Let us pay our humble tributes to them by realising their dreams of an independent and prosperous India.”
