INDI Alliance only day-dreaming if they think of coming to power in 2027: CM

MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant conceded for the first time that Salcete was a spoilsport to the party’s resolute attempt to hold onto the South Goa Lok Sabha in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Stating that the six Salcete Assembly segments Nuvem, Velim, Benaulim, Curtorim, Navelim, and Cuncolim ensured the BJP’s defeat in South Goa in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls by an 80 per cent vote margin.
However, Sawant pointed out that even though the BJP defeated the Congress in 11 of the 20 Assembly segments, the party was unable to secure an 80% vote margin in its strongholds, leaving it stuck in the middle of the fight.
He also acknowledged that the opposition’s narrative, which stoked people’s fears that the Indian Constitution would be altered if the BJP were to retake power in 2024 with more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha, was aided by the party’s 400-seat slogan.
Sawant, however, predicted that in the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections, the BJP would win 27 seats and retake control of the state.
Speaking to South Goa party members at the district party office the Chief Minister emphasized that even though the party was defeated in the South Goa seat by about 13,000 votes, it was still able to surpass the two lakh vote threshold in the Lok Sabha election.
“There might be a variety of reasons for the BJP’s loss in South Goa. One significant contributing factor is that the Congress had an 80% vote lead in the six Salcete Assembly segments: Nuvem, Velim, Benaulim, Curtorim, Navelim, and Cuncolim. Despite having an advantage over the Congress in 11 of the 20 Assembly segments, the BJP was unable to secure an 80% vote margin in these segments, he stated.
But the Chief Minister made it very evident to the INDI Alliance that they would be living in a fantasy world if they considered winning in 2027. According to polling statistics, the BJP led in 16 of the 20 North Goa segments.
“Eleven of the twenty segments in South Goa were won by the party. Even as he bellowed that the double-engine government will retake power in 2027 with 27 seats, he stated, “If we add the seats, the BJP had led over the INDI Alliance in 27 Assembly segments.” CM said.
