New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that India has emerged as a symbol of peace, stability, and inclusive growth at a time when the world faces rising geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and shifting supply chains. Speaking at the Global Maritime CEO Forum in New Delhi, he said India’s maritime strength and expanding partnerships have made the country a reliable and stabilising force in global trade.
“When global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India can become that steady lighthouse,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising that the nation’s maritime sector is advancing rapidly and serving as one of the key engines of economic growth.
Modi highlighted that the summit had evolved into a truly global platform, attracting participants from more than 85 nations. He said the event reflected growing confidence in India’s maritime vision and the synergy driving the sector’s transformation.
Over the past decade, India’s ports and trade infrastructure have undergone major improvements, strengthening the country’s position in global commerce. The Prime Minister noted that Indian ports are now among the most efficient in the developing world and, in several aspects, outperform those in advanced economies.
He also underlined the government’s focus on “next-generation reforms” to modernise the sector, including replacing colonial-era shipping laws with new, future-ready legislation tailored to the 21st century. These changes, he said, have accelerated growth across port-led development, shipping, logistics, and maritime skills.
The Global Maritime CEO Forum, the flagship event of India Maritime Week 2025, brought together CEOs, investors, policymakers, and innovators from across the world to discuss sustainable maritime growth, resilient supply chains, green shipping, and an inclusive blue economy.
India Maritime Week 2025, held from October 27 to 31 under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision,” is a key step in realising the government’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The long-term plan aims to position India among the world’s leading maritime powers through development anchored on four pillars port-led growth, shipbuilding, seamless logistics, and maritime skill-building.
