New Delhi: India and China on Tuesday projected a positive and stabilising approach to their relationship after holding a fresh round of Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi. Both sides emphasised that the two Asian neighbours should regard each other as cooperative partners and opportunities for development rather than as rivals or threats.
The discussions covered a broad range of issues including bilateral relations, border management, trade concerns and cooperation on regional and global platforms. The meeting reviewed recent progress in ties and explored practical steps to carry the engagement forward in a steady and constructive manner.
China highlighted the need for both countries to look at their relationship from a long term and strategic perspective. It stressed that the changing international environment required India and China to work together and implement the common understanding reached between their top leaders. Beijing underlined the importance of deepening mutual trust, expanding cooperation and managing differences in a mature way so that relations move along a sound track.
Both sides acknowledged that peace and tranquillity along the border areas remain essential for the overall growth of bilateral ties. The dialogue focused on ways to maintain stability along the Line of Actual Control and to address issues that had affected relations in recent years. Trade and economic engagement also figured prominently, with both countries agreeing on the need to approach commercial concerns from a broader political and strategic viewpoint.
India welcomed the recent resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and expressed hope that the pilgrimage would expand in scale in the coming years. The two countries also recognised the importance of improving air connectivity, easing visa procedures and strengthening people to people contacts to rebuild confidence at the grassroots level.
On the multilateral front, India and China agreed to support each other during their respective chairmanships of BRICS in 2026 and 2027. They reiterated commitment to multilateralism, the central role of the United Nations and greater coordination among nations of the Global South. China conveyed support for India’s forthcoming BRICS Summit and indicated understanding of India’s aspirations for membership of the United Nations Security Council.
The dialogue reviewed the improving momentum generated by recent meetings between the leaders of the two countries and reaffirmed the resolve to address sensitive issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
