New Delhi: India and Russia underscored the steady strength of their relationship as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. The meeting took place ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s scheduled visit to India for the 23rd Annual Summit, with both sides reviewing progress on several ongoing initiatives.
Jaishankar noted that regular engagements between the two countries have played a significant role in advancing cooperation. He highlighted that multiple agreements and collaborative projects are currently under discussion across diverse sectors, adding that their finalisation would further deepen the strategic partnership.
He emphasised that the dialogue between India and Russia has always been marked by openness, allowing both nations to exchange views on key global and regional developments. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and evolving conditions in Afghanistan were among the critical topics expected to feature in their discussions.
Jaishankar reiterated India’s support for recent global efforts aimed at promoting peace. He stressed that a constructive approach from all parties and an early cessation of hostilities would benefit the entire international community, contributing to broader stability.
Describing India-Russia relations as a longstanding pillar of stability in international affairs, he underlined that their continued growth serves both national interests and contributes positively to the global landscape. He expressed optimism regarding the upcoming deliberations and the momentum they would bring to bilateral ties.
Jaishankar is leading the Indian delegation for the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting, which will be chaired by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on November 18.
