New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for Afghanistan’s “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence” during a bilateral meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in New Delhi.
Highlighting India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s development and stability, Jaishankar emphasized New Delhi’s readiness to assist in reconstruction efforts following the recent earthquakes in Kunar and Nangarhar. He also acknowledged Afghanistan’s sensitivity toward India’s security concerns and its solidarity following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Jaishankar underscored the shared responsibility of both nations to combat cross-border terrorism, stating, “We must coordinate efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
The External Affairs Minister described the meeting as “an important step” in advancing India-Afghanistan relations and reinforcing the enduring friendship between the two countries. He highlighted the value of in-person discussions, noting that they allow for deeper exchange of perspectives, identification of shared interests, and enhanced cooperation.
Jaishankar also lauded India’s swift humanitarian response following the earthquakes, noting that relief materials were delivered to the affected areas within hours. He added that India now plans to assist in the reconstruction of residences and infrastructure, demonstrating continued support for the Afghan people.
