New Delhi: The Indian government has expressed profound sorrow and concern over the tragic beheading of Chandra Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian national, who was fatally attacked at his workplace in Dallas, Texas, on September 10, 2025. The Consulate General of India in Houston confirmed the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family. In an official statement, the Consulate described Nagamallaiah’s death as “tragic” and stated that it was in regular contact with the family, providing all necessary assistance. The statement further noted, “The accused is in the custody of the Dallas Police. We are following up on the matter closely.”
According to the Dallas Police Department, the incident occurred at the Downtown Suites motel, where Nagamallaiah served as the manager. The altercation began over a malfunctioning washing machine. A co-worker reported that while cleaning a room with the accused, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, Nagamallaiah instructed them not to use the broken machine. The situation escalated when Nagamallaiah directed another individual to translate his instructions to Cobos-Martinez, rather than communicating directly, which reportedly angered Cobos-Martinez.
Surveillance footage captured Cobos-Martinez leaving the scene and returning with a machete, with which he attacked Nagamallaiah. The victim’s wife and son were present during the incident and attempted to intervene. Friends and family described Nagamallaiah, affectionately known as “Bob,” as a loving husband, devoted father, and kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he knew.
Cobos-Martinez, a 37-year-old Cuban national, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. He is currently being held without bond and, if convicted, could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
The Indian government has vowed to ensure justice for Nagamallaiah and is closely monitoring the legal proceedings. The Consulate General of India in Houston continues to offer support to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
