New Delhi: The free trade agreement between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) has officially come into force, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday.
Goyal said the agreement will open up new avenues for trade, investment, and job creation, benefiting both businesses and citizens. “Truly a historic day, as the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) comes into force,” he tweeted.
The pact involves India and the four EFTA member nations Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein and is expected to strengthen economic ties and enhance bilateral trade.
Swiss official Guy Parmelin, head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, said: “Today marks the entry into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between EFTA and India.”
The agreement is seen as a step forward in fostering deeper economic collaboration and boosting cross-border investment opportunities.
