New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the India European Union free trade agreement as a landmark step toward fulfilling the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, saying it reflects the rise of an aspirational India and opens vast opportunities for economic growth. Addressing Parliament on the second day of the Budget Session, the Prime Minister said the agreement marked a positive beginning to the year and strengthened India’s global economic standing.
Highlighting the significance of the pact, PM Modi said the deal offers India’s manufacturing sector access to a massive market and urged industries to focus on skill development and higher quality standards. He emphasized that Indian brands have the potential to win trust in European markets by improving competitiveness and innovation. Describing the agreement as a transformative opportunity, he said it would benefit not only manufacturers but also fishermen, farmers, youth, and the services sector through expanded trade access.
The Prime Minister linked the agreement to the government’s broader reform agenda, stating that the country is moving ahead on a path of reform, performance, and transformation. He said long-pending challenges are being addressed through long-term, human-centric solutions supported by technology and inclusive policymaking. According to him, the focus remains on strengthening last-mile delivery to ensure that the benefits of reforms reach every citizen.
Referring to the opening of the Budget Session, PM Modi said President Droupadi Murmu’s address reflected the expectations of 140 crore Indians from their elected representatives. Drawing attention to the upcoming Budget presentation, the Prime Minister said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would present the Budget for a record ninth time, calling it a moment of pride.
