New Delhi: India endured a narrow defeat against Bangladesh in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers clash in Dhaka, despite dominating large spells of the match and creating several promising opportunities. The result leaves the Blue Tigers looking to finish their campaign strongly in their final group fixture.
India began with intensity, pressing high and controlling possession from the outset. Their early momentum was undone in the 11th minute when Bangladesh capitalized on a rare defensive slip and converted their first clear chance of the game, putting the hosts ahead against the run of play.
The visitors reacted with urgency, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Lallianzuala Chhangte produced India’s best moment of the first half with a long-range effort in the 31st minute. His strike nearly caught Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma off his line, but Hamza Choudhury tracked back in time to head the ball to safety and deny India a certain goal.
India emerged from the break looking more fluid and purposeful in attack. Substitutions proved effective as debutant Mohammed Sanan and midfielder Brison Fernandes brought renewed pace and creativity. Sanan’s direct approach, marked by sharp runs and constant pressure on the Bangladesh defence, added a new dimension to India’s forward play.
Despite sustained dominance and repeated attempts through both flanks, India struggled to break through a resolute Bangladeshi backline. The hosts defended with discipline, blocking shots, intercepting crosses and holding their shape deep into stoppage time. Even with six minutes added on, India could not find the decisive touch needed to level the match.
The Blue Tigers will now look to regroup as they prepare for their final group-stage encounter against Hong Kong, aiming to close the qualifiers on a positive note.
