New Delhi: India concluded the BOXAM Elite International 2026 on a powerful note, securing nine gold medals on the final day and emerging as the most successful nation of the tournament. The competition, held in La Nucia, Alicante, witnessed participation from more than 200 boxers representing 20 countries, providing a strong platform for high level international exposure early in the season.
Indian women delivered an exceptional performance, reaching seven finals and winning all of them in convincing fashion. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and former Youth World Champion Arundhati Choudhary were among the standout performers, guiding the team to a clean sweep in the Elite Women category. The success highlighted the growing depth and consistency within the national boxing programme.
The final day began with Manju Rani in the 48 kg category and Nitu in 51 kg registering emphatic unanimous victories over their Spanish opponents. In the 54 kg division, Poonam edged past compatriot Preeti in a closely contested all Indian final. Priya in 60 kg and Arundhati in 70 kg followed with commanding wins against Ukrainian challengers, displaying technical superiority and confidence. Lovlina produced a composed performance in the 75 kg final to defeat England’s Mary Kate Smith, while Naina completed the golden sweep in 80 kg with a well measured bout against Raisa Piskun of Ukraine.
Indian men also contributed significantly to the medal tally. Sachin in the 60 kg final fought a gripping contest to overcome Canada’s Keoma Ali Al Ahmadieh, while Akash secured gold in the 75 kg category after a tense battle against Kazakhstan’s Aman Konsbekov. Deepak in 70 kg and Ankush in 80 kg earned silver medals after facing strong opponents from Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
India ended the championship with nine gold, three silver and seven bronze medals, reinforcing its position as a rising force in international boxing. The performance in Spain has provided valuable momentum as the team prepares for major championships and multi sport events scheduled later in the year.
