New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described India’s relationship with France as special and stabilising at a time of global uncertainty, following bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at Lok Bhavan in Maharashtra.
Addressing a joint interaction after the meeting, Modi announced that the two nations have agreed to elevate their ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership. He said that in a world marked by instability and shifting geopolitical equations, cooperation between India and France serves as an anchor of balance and reliability.
The Prime Minister highlighted expanding collaboration in critical minerals, biotechnology and advanced materials, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening supply chains and emerging industries. He also unveiled several joint initiatives aimed at deepening technological cooperation. These include the Indo French Centre for AI in Health, the Indo French Centre for Digital Science and Technology and a National Centre of Alliance for Skilling in Aeronautics.
In a significant boost to defence manufacturing, Modi announced that an assembly line will be established in India for the H125 single engine light utility helicopter of French origin. He noted that the partnership combines France’s technological strengths with India’s scale and talent base, enabling trusted innovation in key sectors.
The two sides also reiterated their intent to work together through global platforms such as the International Solar Alliance and the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor, focusing on sustainable growth and connectivity.
President Macron described the bilateral relationship as unique, founded on trust, openness and shared ambition. He said both countries have strengthened cooperation over the past eight years in the Indo Pacific, artificial intelligence and clean energy.
After their engagements in Mumbai, the leaders are scheduled to travel to New Delhi to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.
