New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday issued a comprehensive six-point rebuttal to recent claims by US President Donald Trump and senior US officials regarding the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan announced over the weekend. The MEA firmly denied assertions of American mediation, trade pressure, and discussions on Kashmir linked to the ceasefire.
The statements from Washington followed India’s Operation Sindoor—a series of targeted military strikes against terror infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC) and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)—which was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Key points in India’s rebuttal:
1. Ceasefire Was Not US-Mediated
The MEA clarified that the ceasefire was agreed upon solely through direct military channels between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan. This refutes Trump’s claim of prolonged US-mediated negotiations and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s remarks about Washington’s involvement.
2. No Nuclear Threat Escalation
India emphasized that its military actions remained within the conventional domain, dismissing suggestions of a possible nuclear escalation as claimed by Trump.
3. No US Trade Leverage Used
India rejected claims that the US would use trade incentives to influence its response, affirming that trade discussions did not factor into Operation Sindoor.
4. No Third-Party Mediation on Kashmir
The MEA reiterated India’s firm stance that all matters related to Jammu and Kashmir are bilateral issues between India and Pakistan, rejecting any offers of US mediation on the dispute.
5. India Rejects ‘Hyphenation’ With Pakistan
India pushed back against attempts to diplomatically “hyphenate” the two countries. The MEA highlighted global recognition of Pakistan as the epicenter of terrorism, citing international support for India’s right to self-defense following the Pahalgam attack.
6. No Talks Planned at Neutral Venue
Contrary to US claims, India confirmed that no discussions have been scheduled at a neutral venue for broader dialogue with Pakistan.
Additionally, the MEA confirmed that India has placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance as part of its strategic response.
