New Delhi: Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, India has reiterated its firm support for Kabul’s sovereignty and accused Islamabad of fostering terrorism while blaming neighbouring countries for its internal problems.
Speaking on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is closely watching the evolving situation between the two countries. He noted that “three things are clear” Pakistan continues to host terrorist organisations, deflects blame onto others for its domestic failures, and is frustrated by Afghanistan’s assertion of sovereignty over its own territory.
Reaffirming New Delhi’s consistent policy, the MEA stated that India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan. The statement comes at a time when relations between Islamabad and Kabul have sharply deteriorated over border tensions and cross-border militant activity.
Jaiswal also provided an update on India’s diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, confirming that the technical mission operating in Kabul will soon be expanded into a full-fledged embassy. This move signals India’s intention to strengthen engagement with the Afghan people and support the country’s stability through developmental and humanitarian cooperation.
India has long maintained that terrorism emanating from Pakistan remains one of the biggest threats to regional peace and stability. By reaffirming its backing for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, New Delhi underscored its position that the region’s future lies in mutual respect for borders, non-interference, and collective efforts against terrorism.
