New Delhi: India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling on Islamabad to end the “grave and ongoing human rights violations” in territories under its illegal occupation. The remarks were made by Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during the UNSC’s open debate marking the 80th United Nations Day.
Ambassador Harish firmly reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India, adding that the people of the Union Territory enjoy their fundamental rights in accordance with India’s democratic and constitutional framework. He underlined that such democratic principles are “alien” to Pakistan.
“We call upon Pakistan to end the grave human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population continues to resist military occupation, repression, and exploitation of resources,” Harish stated during his address.
The Indian envoy also highlighted that while India remains committed to upholding democracy and human rights, Pakistan continues to deny these very freedoms to people living under its control.
Emphasizing India’s global outlook, Harish said the country’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam the world is one family guides its approach to international cooperation, justice, and equality. “This belief is not only central to our worldview but also reflects India’s consistent advocacy for justice, dignity, opportunity, and prosperity for all societies,” he noted.
Addressing the theme of the open debate, Harish acknowledged the United Nations’ historic role since World War II but pointed out that the organization now faces pressing questions regarding its relevance, credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness.
India’s strong statement at the UNSC once again underscored its position on Jammu and Kashmir and its call for Pakistan to cease rights violations and interference in India’s internal affairs.
