New Delhi: India has formally signed the Hajj 2026 agreement with Saudi Arabia, securing a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims for next year’s pilgrimage. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju signed the agreement in Jeddah during an official visit from November 7 to 9, marking a key step in preparations for the upcoming Hajj season.
Rijiju held detailed discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, to review ongoing arrangements and explore ways to enhance coordination between both countries. The meeting focused on improving transport systems, accommodation facilities, health support, and overall logistics to ensure that Indian pilgrims have a smooth and safe experience in 2026.
Following the talks, the two sides formalised the bilateral Hajj agreement, confirming India’s quota and outlining cooperation mechanisms for the coming year. Officials described the discussions as constructive and said they reflected a shared commitment to refining the pilgrimage framework.
During his visit, Rijiju also met officials from the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah to evaluate India’s internal readiness. He appreciated the coordination efforts with Saudi authorities, highlighting the importance of efficient planning and on-ground support for the large number of Indian pilgrims who travel each year.
Rijiju toured key Hajj-related facilities, including the Jeddah airport’s Terminal 1 and the Haramain high-speed rail station, to gain a direct understanding of the infrastructure that will serve Indian travellers. He also interacted with members of the Indian community in Jeddah and Taif.
Calling the agreement a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation, Rijiju said both nations remain committed to making Hajj 2026 a safe and spiritually meaningful experience. He emphasised that the partnership reflects deepening ties between India and Saudi Arabia, not only in religious and cultural matters but also in broader areas of collaboration.
Rijiju was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, including Additional Secretary Aseem R Mahajan and Joint Secretary Ram Singh. The visit was undertaken at the invitation of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah.
