New Delhi: India has delivered 21 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan following a devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern regions late Sunday, killing over 1,400 people and injuring more than 2,500.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed on ‘X’ that the relief materials, flown into Kabul on Tuesday, included blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, generators, portable water purifiers, kitchen utensils, sleeping bags, essential medicines, wheelchairs, hand sanitizers, water purification tablets, and other medical supplies.
“Indian earthquake assistance reaches Kabul by air,” Jaishankar said, adding that India will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and provide additional aid in the coming days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier expressed India’s readiness to extend all possible humanitarian assistance to the quake-affected population, emphasizing India’s commitment to supporting its neighbor in times of crisis.
