New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has issued a strong message on national security, describing Operation Sindoor as “just a trailer” and warning that India will not tolerate any attempts by Pakistan to fuel terrorism. Speaking at a defence forum, he said India’s progress cannot be disrupted by hostile actions and made it clear that the armed forces will respond decisively to terrorists and those guiding them.
Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025 following the deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. During the operation, Indian forces targeted nine terror training sites across Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir that were linked to organisations such as Jaish e Mohammed and Lashkar e Taiba. Precision weapons, including SCALP cruise missiles and advanced guided munitions, were employed to neutralise the camps while avoiding civilian casualties. General Dwivedi said the security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir has improved since 2019, adding that terrorism has declined and stone pelting has disappeared. He also noted that relations with China have shown progress since late 2024, crediting clearer political engagement at the highest levels for improved ground coordination along the border.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan echoed the message of capability and coordination, stressing that India’s three armed services are working towards greater jointness while preserving their individual identities. He highlighted Operation Sindoor as a key example of integrated planning, pointing out that the Army, Navy and Air Force operated seamlessly in the days leading up to the strikes in early May. He noted that naval assets, including long-range loitering munitions, were used in support of cross border targets and that unified planning cells ensured smooth mobilisation of equipment.
General Chauhan emphasised that future warfare will rely heavily on new domains such as space, information and cognitive influence. He said that understanding human geography is as essential as understanding terrain, especially in counter insurgency operations. The defence leadership also underlined that emerging technologies and smart strategies will play a decisive role in creating advantages over adversaries, enabling India to respond swiftly and effectively across all domains.
