New Delhi: In a key move to ease bilateral tensions, India will resume issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals starting July 24, according to the Indian Embassy in China. The decision is part of broader efforts to normalise ties between the two nations, strained since the 2020 border clashes in eastern Ladakh.
This development follows recent diplomatic engagements, including Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s visit to Beijing and discussions with Chinese officials on reviving people-centric exchanges. The two sides agreed to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025 and restart cooperation on hydrological data and trans-border rivers.
Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, highlighting the need to address border tensions and restore people-to-people ties.
Though troops have disengaged from key friction points, full de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control remains unresolved. However, the resumption of visas is seen as a step toward rebuilding trust through diplomatic dialogue and cultural exchange.
