New Delhi: In its biggest military upgrade since Independence, the Modi government has approved a 15-year modernisation plan to transform India’s armed forces with cutting-edge technology and billions of dollars in investment.
The Defence Ministry’s roadmap includes nuclear-powered warships, next-generation battle tanks, hypersonic missiles, stealth bomber drones, AI-driven weapons, and space-based warfare systems.
The Army will induct nearly 1,800 future-ready tanks, 400 light tanks for mountain warfare, 50,000 anti-tank guided missiles, and over 700 robotic counter-IED systems. The Navy’s upgrades feature a new aircraft carrier, 10 frigates, 7 corvettes, 4 landing dock platforms, and nuclear propulsion for warships. The Air Force will acquire 75 high-altitude pseudo-satellites, 150 stealth bomber drones, precision-guided munitions, and over 100 remotely piloted aircraft.
This futuristic blueprint focuses on AI, autonomy, and space warfare, ensuring India’s preparedness for 21st-century conflicts.
The plan comes months after Operation Sindoor, where India launched precision strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam attack. The defence boost signals India’s resolve to strengthen its national security and deter future threats.
