New Delhi:
In the lead-up to the Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian cricket team is gearing up for a crucial three-match ODI series against England, with the first match scheduled to take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur today. This series marks a significant milestone for two young Indian cricketers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana, who are poised to make their ODI debuts.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 23-year-old batting sensation from Mumbai, has already made a name for himself in the Test and T20I formats. With an impressive Test record of 1798 runs at an average of 52.88 from 19 matches, and 723 runs in 23 T20Is at a strike rate of 164.31, Jaiswal is expected to bring his aggressive batting style to the ODI arena.
Harshit Rana, another young talent, will also be making his ODI debut. Rana made his Test debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last November and has since taken four wickets in two Tests. His T20I debut came recently in the series against England, where he played a pivotal role as a concussion substitute, contributing to India’s win with impressive bowling figures of 3/33.
The Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, includes other key players such as Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and the returning Mohammed Shami. Shami, who last played an ODI in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, has recovered from an ankle injury and made his international return during the recent T20I series against England.
The English team, captained by Jos Buttler, features a strong lineup including Ben Duckett, Phil Salt, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Saqib Mahmood.
