New Delhi: India’s defence framework and strategic readiness were placed in sharp focus as the Defence Minister addressed the Chanakya Defence Dialogue in New Delhi, underscoring the country’s determination to protect its sovereignty and maintain stability in a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment. The minister noted that India supports peace and dialogue, yet remains firm that national security and territorial integrity are non-negotiable.
During the address, he outlined how shifting power centres and emerging global tensions have created an era of uncertainty. He emphasised that the nature of conflict is changing, with new pressures shaping regional and international security. In this environment, clarity of purpose and preparedness have become crucial for safeguarding national interests.
The minister highlighted the diverse challenges India faces within its neighbourhood. These include cross-border terrorism, support to extremist networks, attempts to alter established boundaries, maritime tensions and the growing influence of information warfare. Such complexities, he said, demand a steady and focused approach reinforced by strong defence capabilities.
He stressed that while India consistently advocates dialogue and peaceful solutions, the nation will always respond decisively whenever sovereignty or the safety of citizens is threatened. He added that the armed forces have repeatedly demonstrated their capability, resilience and readiness to handle any challenge. This balanced approach of restraint combined with firmness, he noted, enables the country to manage regional issues while supporting broader stability.
The two-day Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025 brought together military leaders, diplomats, strategic analysts, industry experts and scholars to engage on emerging defence perspectives. Organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies, the event focuses on the national vision aimed at building a strong, secure and developed India.
Discussions at the forum examined India’s evolving security landscape and the technological advancements required to address threats in an increasingly contested global arena. The dialogue aims to shape future-oriented strategies that align with the country’s long-term defence and development goals.
