New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday delivered a firm warning to Pakistan, declaring that India will not be cowed by any “nuclear threat” and reaffirming the country’s uncompromising stance against terrorism.
Speaking at the Convocation Ceremony for foreign national graduates of a private university in Vadodara, Jaishankar stressed that those who support and employ terrorism will face severe consequences. “India will never give in to nuclear blackmail,” he said, emphasizing that sponsors and facilitators of terrorism must pay a heavy price.
While he did not explicitly name any country, his comments were widely interpreted as a pointed message to Pakistan amid escalating geopolitical tensions and Islamabad’s ongoing nuclear rhetoric.
Jaishankar also highlighted India’s growing influence on the world stage, describing the nation as a “rare civilisational state reclaiming its rightful place in the comity of nations.” He pointed to India’s rising geopolitical ambitions fueled by robust economic growth, strategic partnerships, and a strong position within the Global South.
This comes in the backdrop of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ launched by India in retaliation to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives. The operation involved targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, triggering a tense four-day military standoff between the two countries.
Jaishankar’s remarks underscore India’s steadfast resolve to counter terrorism and resist coercion, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding national security and regional stability.
