JAMMU: The Indian Army on Sunday thwarted a suspected infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakot sector of Poonch district, triggering a heavy exchange of fire.
According to officials, troops noticed suspicious movement near the LoC around 5:30 am and immediately opened fire, preventing the suspected infiltrators from crossing over. The encounter led to intense firing, and the operation is still underway.
In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that troops have been repositioned and reoriented to ensure complete domination of the sector, with soldiers maintaining heightened vigilance across the LoC.
In a separate development, security forces eliminated notorious terrorist facilitator Bagu Khan, also known as ‘Human GPS’, in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district on Saturday.
Khan, active in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir since 1995, was considered one of the biggest links in pushing terrorists into the Valley. Security agencies said he was responsible for at least 100 infiltration attempts, most of which were successful.
Known by the alias Samandar Chacha, Khan had unmatched knowledge of secret infiltration routes and the rugged terrain of the region, making him a key asset for terror outfits for nearly three decades. He was killed along with another terrorist while attempting infiltration from the Nowshera Naar area.
Meanwhile, a high-security alert has been sounded across Bihar after intelligence inputs suggested that three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists may have entered the state via Nepal.
The Bihar Police headquarters has circulated the names and photographs of the suspected terrorists to all districts. Officials suspect the group entered through the Araria border after crossing over from Nepal.
