In a testament to their swift and effective response to maritime emergencies, the Indian Coast Guard conducted a daring rescue operation on Wednesday, saving 54 people from a stranded boat off the Lakshadweep coast. The rescue involved the boat ‘Mohammad Kasim-II’, which was en route from Kavaratti to Suhelipar Island when it issued a distress call.
The operation highlighted the Coast Guard’s efficiency in handling such critical situations. Here is a detailed account of the rescue mission:
The ‘Mohammad Kasim-II’, carrying 54 individuals including three crew members, nine men, 22 women, and 23 children, had set off from Kavaratti to Suhelipar Island in the early hours of Tuesday. However, the boat suffered an engine failure, prompting a distress call to the Lakshadweep Administration.
Upon receiving the distress alert, the Lakshadweep Administration immediately notified the Indian Coast Guard, which sprang into action. Utilizing their advanced Coastal Surveillance System, the Coast Guard successfully located the stranded vessel.
The rescue mission was meticulously executed, with the Coast Guard ship reaching the adrift boat by approximately 4:30 PM on Tuesday. The ship’s boarding team assessed the situation and safely embarked all 54 passengers. By 4 PM on Wednesday, all individuals were safely brought back to Kavaratti, where they were handed over to the Lakshadweep Administration authorities.
The successful rescue underscores the importance of adherence to safety protocols and the critical role of the Indian Coast Guard in ensuring maritime safety.
