New Delhi: The Indian men’s football team has dropped to 136th in the latest FIFA rankings, marking its lowest position in nine years. This decline follows a draw and a defeat against Singapore, which ended India’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup.
The team slipped two places from its previous ranking of 134th, placing it just below Kuwait and slightly above Botswana. The last time India had a lower ranking was in October and November 2016, when it stood at 137. India’s highest-ever FIFA ranking remains 94, achieved in February 1996.
In the Asian Cup third-round qualifiers, India managed a 1-1 draw in the away fixture against Singapore, followed by a 1-2 loss in the home-leg match held in Margao on October 14. These results proved costly, affecting the team’s ranking and highlighting ongoing challenges in international competitions.
