PANJIM: The first and the youngest visionary Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi is the Architect of Modern Goa. He pioneered the overall development of our motherland by including Goa as the 25th State of Republic of India said Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
He was speaking at 76th birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi at Congress House at Panjim.
“It is because of his love and affection for the Goans, today we see transformation of our State which was once a Union Territory with Daman and Diu” Kamat said.
Today, during this Covid Pandemic, when it has become impossible to have physical contacts as all of us are maintaining social distancing, the only way of maintaining connectivity is through virtual platforms.
“We all must remember that the seed for the information technology (IT) revolution was planted during Rajiv Gandhi’s time when he became the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 40.”
Digambar Kamat appealed to Congress workers to work hard to transform India into a modern country which was the dream of Rahiv Gandhi.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha while offering tributes said that former PM Rajiv Gandhi always worked for empowerment of youth and giving powers to the local bodies like Panchayats and Municipalities. He was the one who reduced the Voting Right from 21 to 18 with a vision of making youth of the country more participative in democratic functioning.
CLP Leader Digambar Kamat and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha garlanded the photo of Rajiv Gandhi. GPCC members M K Shaikh, Vijay Pai, Shambhu Bhau Bandekar, Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar, Seva Dal president Shankar Kirlaparkar and others were also present.
Earlier, AICC General Secretary and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and other members of the Congress Party garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at GMC Complex, Bambolim.
All the Congress Leaders and Workers took oath to mark the Sadbhavana Divas which is observed on the birth anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi.
