New Delhi: IndiGo has reported a significant improvement in its operations, with the airline expecting to run more than 1,650 flights today compared to 1,500 the previous day. According to the latest update, 137 of its 138 destinations are now active and on time performance has risen to 75 percent, a substantial recovery from 30 percent a day earlier.
The airline reiterated that passengers with bookings until December 15 will receive full waivers on cancellations and rescheduling. Refunds and baggage reconciliation are being processed at an accelerated pace. IndiGo said it is working continuously to restore normal operations and asked travellers for patience as recovery efforts continue.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken several rapid measures to stabilise the situation following the airline’s operational breakdown. Officials said domestic air travel is returning to normal, with other carriers functioning smoothly and IndiGo showing marked progress in restoring its schedule.
A sudden surge in ticket prices due to mass cancellations prompted the ministry to impose immediate airfare caps to ensure affordability. Since the directive was implemented, fares across affected routes have returned to reasonable levels, and all airlines have been instructed to strictly follow the revised structure.
To protect travellers financially, the ministry ordered IndiGo to complete all pending refunds for cancelled or heavily delayed flights by 8 pm today. The airline has already processed Rs 610 crore in refunds. Additional fees for rescheduling disrupted travel have been prohibited. Dedicated support teams have been set up to assist passengers with refund and rebooking issues efficiently.
IndiGo has been instructed to locate and return all misplaced baggage within 48 hours while maintaining continuous communication with affected passengers. As of yesterday, 3,000 pieces of baggage have been successfully delivered.
Smooth Airport Operations Nationwide
Airport authorities from major hubs including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Goa have confirmed normal operations, with no congestion at check in, security, or boarding points. On ground assistance has been strengthened with additional staff and monitoring.
The ministry’s 24×7 control room continues to oversee operations, airport conditions, and passenger support. Calls are being addressed promptly, and teams remain deployed to supervise planning, crew management, and passenger handling.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has assured travellers that safety and convenience remain top priorities. It said the aviation sector is moving quickly toward full stability and that all corrective measures will remain in force until operations are completely normalised. Further updates will be issued as required.
