Srinagar: Security forces successfully intercepted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, killing two terrorists just hours after a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including tourists and security personnel.
According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, the infiltration attempt occurred early Wednesday in the Sarjeevan area near Uri Nala in north Kashmir. “On 23 April 2025, approximately 2-3 unidentified terrorists attempted to infiltrate,” the Army posted on X at around 8 AM. “Alert troops challenged and intercepted the infiltrators, leading to an intense exchange of fire,” the statement added.
An hour later, the Army confirmed the elimination of two terrorists. A substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like materials was recovered from the encounter site. The operation remains ongoing.
This encounter unfolded shortly after a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where gunmen opened fire on tourists in the scenic Baisaran Valley. At least 26 people were killed and many others injured in one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent memory. Among the victims were a Naval officer and an Intelligence Bureau official.
Due to the challenging terrain, military helicopters were deployed to airlift the injured, as the region is accessible only by foot or horseback.
PM Modi Condemns Attack, Cuts Short Foreign Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the Pahalgam attack in the strongest terms and vowed swift justice. “Those behind this heinous act will not be spared. Their evil agenda will never succeed,” he posted on X Tuesday evening. “Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakeable, and it will only grow stronger.”
The Prime Minister also cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to India early Wednesday. Upon arrival, he held a high-level meeting at Delhi airport with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to review the situation.
The twin incidents have heightened security concerns in the Valley, with the government vowing a robust response to ensure peace and protect civilians in the region.
