KHANDEPAR: A frightened and injured leopard cub caused a scare in the residential area of Panchme, Khandepar, Goa, on Friday evening when it wandered into a local home. The family, returning around 7 pm, initially mistook the animal for a dog but soon realized it was a leopard cub. Concerned for the safety of both the cub and nearby residents, they immediately informed the Forest Department.
Forest officials responded promptly, safely capturing the cub and placing it in a secure cage. The animal was then transported for medical attention to ensure its health and recovery. Local environmentalist Sandeep Parkar observed that the cub appeared weak and frightened, likely having strayed from its natural habitat.
The Panchme area has a history of occasional wildlife sightings, including leopards and black panthers, highlighting the need for vigilance and awareness in human-animal coexistence zones.
