FATORDA: Fatorda MLA and president of the Goa Forward Party (GFP), Vijai Sardesai claimed that the State administration is deliberately omitting a precise definition of “land grabbing,” which has hindered the Commission of Inquiry led by Justice V K Jadhav (Retd) and contributed to weakening its conclusions.
Vijai noted in a statement that the commission itself had brought up the major failure, suggesting that efforts were made to sabotage the investigation from the start.
In Goa’s historic and extensive land-grabbing scheme, he also charged that the government was sheltering and supporting the actual offenders the report mentioned.
In a tweet, Sardesai cited the commission’s findings that those involved in this crime had acted “cleverly behind the curtain,” employing others “as mere pawns” and utilizing fake documents to orchestrate unlawful land transfers.
Sardesai reiterated his conviction that a group of influential people were responsible for this unlawful conduct by claiming, “This scam is not just about stolen land; it’s about stealing Goa itself from Goans.”
Declaring that it is the responsibility of the government to defend the rights and legacy of Goans, he called for prompt action to identify and prosecute anybody mentioned or implicated in the Commission’s findings.
“We will take this fight to every Goan household and expose their complicity in this massive scam if the government does not act now,” Sardesai said, adding that the Chief Minister need to resign from office right once for supposedly “protecting” the land grabbing scammers.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant received the report from the Goa government’s one-man panel on land grabbing cases in the coastal state last year. The commission was led by Retd Justice of Bombay High Court V K Jadhav. Later, the State Cabinet approved the findings.
