Djibouti: Indian Navy warship INS Trikand carried out a critical firefighting and rescue operation on a Cameroon-flagged commercial vessel, MT Falcon, which caught fire off the coast of Djibouti. The incident tragically resulted in the deaths of two crew members, while 24 others including one British and 23 Indian nationals were rescued by nearby merchant ships.
Deployed in the Gulf of Aden for maritime security operations, INS Trikand rendered immediate assistance, dispatching a team of firefighting and medical specialists to the stricken vessel. Braving intense heat, toxic fumes, and damaged structures, the team successfully recovered the mortal remains of the two missing crew members.
The Indian Navy confirmed that the remains were handed over to the Embassy of India in Djibouti. The operation highlights the Navy’s rapid response capability and commitment to maritime safety in the region, particularly in high-risk areas like the Gulf of Aden.
