PANAJI: Directorate of Transport today has issued a public notice to all operators warning warning that the state government will cancel permits of all the taxis that fail to install digital meters by October 31.
The Transport department has also said that this order complies to tourist vehicle permit, taxis with All Goa Permit, Yellow Black stand permit.
“If the taxi owners fail to fix the digital meter by Oct 31 their permit shall be suspended without any further notice and will only be revoked after proof of installation of the digital meters is submitted to the department.,” the order issued by Transport dept states
Further, tn the event that the meters is not installed by Oct 31,2021 the suspension shall be made permanent without any further notice and the permit shall be cancelled.
The permit holders are not allowed to carry out business during the period that the permit is suspended,” states the public notice.
The state government has already cancelled permits of 1,849 taxis whose registration number is ending in 0 or 1 for non-installation of digital fare meters within stipulated timelines.
“For all the permit holders whose vehicle registration numbers are ending in 2, 3, 4 or 5 an opportunity is given till 5th October 2021 to install the digital meter. Following this period if there is default in installing the Digital Fare Meter, the permit shall stand suspended without any further notice till 31/10/2021 or till proof of installation is submitted in the department, whichever is earlier. Based on the proof of installation the suspension of permit shall be revoked,”the order states
Meanwhile, for permit holders whose vehicle registration numbers are ending in 6, 7, 8 or 9 the schedule as per public notice dated 18th May 2021 should be strictly adhered to.
“In the event that the meter is not installed by 31/10/2021, the suspension shall be made permanent without any further notice and the permit shall be cancelled. The permit holders are not allowed to carry out business during the period that the permit is suspended,” it states
The State government has recently announced that the amount paid towards installation of digital meters would be refunded to the taxi owner.
However, some taxi operators have been demanding that permission granted to GoaMiles, the app-based facility, be withdrawn failing which they will not install the meters. The government has directed GoaMiles also to install the same digital meters.
