Panjim: The third edition of International Purple Fest 2025 wrapped up in Goa, celebrating the state’s growing Purple Movement as a national example of accessibility, empowerment, and equality for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The festival was organized by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and United Nations India.
The closing ceremony featured key leaders including Governor of Goa Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Governor of Kerala Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and Goa’s Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai.

The Governor of Kerala highlighted the importance of providing opportunities rather than sympathy, while the Chief Minister noted the growth of a “Purple Economy” where inclusion supports economic progress.
Over four days, the fest showcased workshops, cultural events, and discussions focused on empowerment and inclusion. A special convention by Tata Steel Foundation emphasized extending disability initiatives to rural areas, ensuring no one is left behind.
The final day also featured a session on Parkinson’s disease awareness, highlighting the need for stronger support systems.
Twenty-one Purple Ambassadors were honored, and the festival closed with vibrant cultural performances and the launch of the Purple Newsletter.
Minister Subhash Phal Dessai thanked all involved, calling the fest a “heartbeat of inclusion” that reflects Goa’s leadership in building a more inclusive society.
